More drivel from Armadale. Happily the weather now seems to have gone all spring-like which is a great help - no swamp to drain this week.
For some time now Doc Bridgett has been sneaking off to odd corners of the stadium with bits of pipe, metal sheet and angle grinders. The purpose behind all this was finally revealed when Doc produced a new sprayer attachment for the water truck. This was basically a largeish brass nozzle plumbed into the pump, the metal plate being used to deflect the water over a wider area.
This new rain machine proved very successful in keeping the surface from drying out on what was a very hot and sunny day. By varying the speed of the truck the amount of water sprayed could be varied from light rain to monsoon, This was really vital because the track was absorbing the water very quickly, almost by the time the truck had completed another lap.
Before all this liquiid action we had received a delivery of new shale and clay on Monday and a good load was spread on the track, meshed, wheeled, packed. etc until done to perfection.
The result of all this was some spectacular track action, highlighted by our young Finnish reserve Kalle Katajisto equalling the track record in a sore of 19+1. Kevin Wolbert also had a six-race paid maximum but all the team contributed against a possibly weakened Newcastle Diamonds whose two main Danes were unavailable.
Everyone here has everything crossed for the Council's decision on Sainsburys planning application which is due on Wednesday.
Apparently there are seven applications for new supermarkets and we can only hope that the Sainsbutys bid will be successful, although the word is that the planning department recommendation was not in favour. This has ggreat financial implications as money we had been promised from Sainsburys would go a long way to establishing the new facility.
A representative from Sainsburys was present at Friday's meeting to urge everyone to contact the council on their (and our) behalf.
