Not an awful lot to report this week about general track work which seemed to go very smoothly and quickly - I am sure we could have been ready to go about mid-day on Friday. Again a good dose of shale and clay was added - last week's load is now well depleted. Weather favoured us again so the water cart and sprayer were out frequently with the wheel and mesh.
Our main happening this week was the arrival of new signing Tobi Busch who had arrived to replace the unfortunate Joszef Tabaka who, despite great effort, had not been able to justify his 7 point average. A shame because Joszef did show great promise and was a thoroughly nice guy. Anyway Tobi arrived on Friday afternoon and had about a dozen laps to get used to the track. He looked very steady and quite quick and did not seem to have any trouble with the turns. He has a very professional set-up and should fit in well.
After Tobi had finished the track was re-graded and the fence cleaned in preparation for the evening's Premier League fixture against the Tigers (Glasgow version) There were alleged rumours of a new signing for Glasgow and some talk of who would have to make way for Joe (oops). Anyway the meeting turned out to be a complete farce as the Tigers, for whatever reason (being a bit diplomatic here) seemed to have no interest in actually scoring any points, either not gating or rolling to a halt.
Even James Grieves who always makes a special effort at Armadale was very subdued. The notable exception being Anders Andersen who stopped entering the third bend on his last lap with his machine locked up solid and proceeded to push/haul/drag his bike round to the finish - a magnificent effort but somewhat bizarre given what his colleagues were doing.
The meeting culminated in a farcical heat 15 where nobody wanted to race at all ending in young Kalle sliding to a graceful halt on the first bend and Travis McGowan laying down to avoid him and being awarded the race win. During all this nonsense Tobi helped himself to a paid 10 points.
An eventful day but one that does nothing to enhance the reputation of speedway "racing"
