Back after a brief hiatus caused by no meeting. As per usual (not) the weather remained warm and quite windy - ideal drying conditions such that the order of the day was water, water and then more water. Although we had had a substantial amount of overnight rain the circuit was rapidly drying.
By using a cunning plan involving a slightly different routing from our water source and by running it through the pump we were able to reduce the time to refill the big water tank to about 25 minutes rather than the normal hour, which helped to keep the surface damp. The usual routine of spiking, wheeling etc helped to seal the water in, so much so that Ryan Fisher recorded a time of 54.2, 0.3 outside his track record in heat 1.
Our opponents, the Wasps of Newport made it a close competition with contributions from Leigh Lanham and Craig Watson, well backed up by Kyle Legault, who had Redcar's Ben Wilson assisting him in the pits, and Kim Nilsson.
There was also a rather alarming incident involving Todd Kurtz who lost it on the fourth bend, whereupon his machine hit the fence next to the pit entrance, and when he picked it up to try to remount the cut-out was still connected and the machine took briefly off at high speed down towards the pits, until the cut-out finally did its stuff.
We were honoured to have as a guest Isle of Man TT superstar and keen speedway supporter John McGuinness, who was racing in the British Superbike meeting at Knockhill. John spent a long time on the centre green watching the action.
After another 3 point win we then set out on our Southern trip where narrow wins at Rye House and Newport put us in an excellent position, well clear at the top of the Premier League.
Another week off to look forward to due to something happening in Somerset next Friday.
Best regards
Ian
